“Bearing Witness and Using Your Voice for the Voiceless – We Can’t Let Our Neighbors Disappear” with Rachel Self
Immigration Support Q&A with Attorney Rachel Self – Attorney Rachel Self, who lives on Chappaquiddick and is active in family immigration issues, will lead a 30-minute question-and-answer session on how we can better understand and support immigrants in our community. The conversation will take place on February 1 following the regular UUSMV service. The session, which is open to all, will begin after our post-service social hour and refreshments.
Rachel is the founding member of Rachel M. Self, P.C., where she represents individuals in criminal and immigration matters. After 49 migrants were abducted and flown to Martha’s Vineyard in the fall of 2022, she was instrumental in organizing support for them through local agencies. She also helped coordinate the criminal investigations of the victims with the Bexar County (Texas) Sheriff’s Department, resulting in U visa certifications for all 49 individuals.
Her work has received national recognition, including features on 60 Minutes, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and in Martha’s Vineyard vs. DeSantis. She was also named an Honorable Mention for Bostonian of the Year 2022 by Boston Globe Magazine.
