Compassion and Connection; Caring for and about Our Island Neighbors in Need with Lisa Belcastro of Harbor Homes
Sunday, November 10 at 10 a.m.: Compassion and Connection; Caring for and about Our Island Neighbors in Need with Lisa Belcastro of Harbor Homes
Compassion and Connection are essential for all of us. One of the true blessings of our Island community is that we care for and about our Island neighbors in need. The Harbor Homes Overnight Winter Shelter is fueled by Islanders volunteering to provide a warm, safe, compassionate, nourishing, and friendly environment. We believe that a kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Let’s talk about what compassion looks like and all the ways we can express compassion.
Lisa Belcastro is the director of the Harbor Homes Winter Shelter. She’s been a part of the Island’s homeless shelter since it began eleven years ago as Houses of Grace. Lisa also served as the regional coordinator for the National Alliance of Mental Illness for five years and continues to volunteer for NAMI, facilitating monthly support groups and leading mental health courses. Lisa loves the Island and volunteers with numerous Island non-profits and school groups. Her lifechanging experience with the Venezuelan migrants created a new passion for policy changes for immigrants.
Lisa loves fishing and gardening and being outside with family and friends on MV. She has run a marathon in all 50 states and is hoping to hike El Camino de Santiago. When September rolls around, you can find Lisa fishing all thirty-five days of the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby.
