Love Your Crooked Neighbor with All Your Crooked Heart

The word “crooked” is heard so often these days to refer to people of all backgrounds, that it seems to have lost its meaning. Yet, as W.H. Auden reminds us in these lines, all of our hearts are crooked too and still they retain the capacity for love and forgiveness. How do we continue to dig deep, to uphold the principles of freedom and justice, while also maintaining open hearts? How does love sustain us, even as we feel depleted by the ongoing struggles in the world?
